Instant Pot Delay Start allows you to prep your food and delay the start of the cook time. This means you can, for example, prep oats the night before and use delay start so that they cook overnight and are ready when you wake up.
How to use Delay Start:
1. Press the cooking mode you are wanting to use (eg. Pressure Cook/Rice).
2. Select the cook time for the recipe you are wanting to make.
3. Press Delay Start and choose how many hours you’d like it to start cooking in.
4. Press Delay Start again and choose the minutes.
5. After a few seconds the timer will start beeping and the light will be on on your Delay Start button.
NOTE: Remember to take into account the time your Instant Pot will take to come to pressure and to release pressure.
Ingredients
Cooking spray
1 cup Woolworths rolled oats
1 cup low fat milk
2 cups boiling water
Pinch of salt
Toppings for later (i.e. nut butter, seeds, fruit, honey, cinnamon or nuts)
Instructions
Spray inner pot with cooking oil spray, then add in oats, water and salt, if using. Secure the lid of the Instant Pot and set to Pressure Cook for 2 mins on Low Pressure.
Then press your delay start or timer button and set the timer for the amount of time you want to delay the cooktime for (be sure you figure about 30 minutes of cooktime after the delay time). I set it for 7-8 hours at night before I go to bed.
After cooktime, do a min 10 to 15 min wait or full natural release if you have time. When it’s safe, remove lid and enjoy your hot breakfast! I personally love topping mine with fruit, cinnamon, and a tsp of maple syrup. You can then add more milk if you wish.
Note
If you’re using Jungle Oats change to Pressure Cook at 0 minutes (low pressure)
Top tip
Use ice cubes to cool down quickly for kids
This also freezes great! I use my silicone egg molds or muffin tins to portion out my oats and freeze. You can even freeze with your favorite toppings!
